Divine Liturgy of Harbinger Gospel Church
Candle Lighting
Leader: As we light this candle, we call to mind the words of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Congregation: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12, CSB)
*The Leader lights the candle.
Leader: Let this holy light be a sign of Christ’s presence among us.
Congregation: May we walk in His light and reflect His divine love to all the world.

Congregation: As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)

Prayer for Illumination
Leader: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Word, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. As we prepare to engage with Your sacred scriptures today, open our eyes to see the wonders of Your law and open our hearts to receive Your truth. Holy Spirit, enlighten our minds, grant us wisdom to understand, and give us the courage to obey. May Your Word empower us to know, love, and follow You more faithfully. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.

Homily

Group Discussion on the Scripture
The congregation has a discussion centered on the week’s passage and homily. Pointing out things that they learned, ways they were encouraged, or questions they have.
Edification, Prayer, Gifts
The Pastor prayers for the group, and invites the Holy Spirit to move in power, manifesting gifts as needed for the edification of the group.
The group takes prayer requests for all burdens – personal, local, and global, and we pray together for each burden in real time as the request is received.
Consecration of the Eucharist
The Word of Institution
Pastor: We gather at this sacred Communion table, joining the faithful of ages past in the holy mystery of the Eucharist. Here, we remember and proclaim the profound love of our Lord Jesus Christ, who invites us to partake in His divine life.
On the night when He was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread. After giving thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:24, CSB)
In the same way, after supper, He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:25, CSB)
By partaking in this bread and this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes again. We celebrate His resurrection and ascension, and we joyfully anticipate His return in glory.
Pastoral prayer: O merciful Father, we thank You for these gifts of bread and wine, symbols of Christ’s body and blood. Sanctify them by Your Holy Spirit, that as we receive them, we may be united with Christ and with one another in His body, the Church. Fill us with Your grace, that we may faithfully serve You and bear witness to Your love in the world.
As we share in this holy feast, remind us of our communion with the saints who have gone before us and those around the world who share in this sacrament. Bind us together in the unity of Your Spirit, and grant us the strength to live as Your holy people.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Consumption of the Eucharist
Pastor: Let’s have a moment of silent reflection. Think about Jesus – who He is, what He’s done, His great love for you.
I will now ask you a couple questions, and at the end, I will prompt you to answer all together.
Do you now desire to love Jesus and serve Him as your King? Do you commit to forsake your own way, follow His way as your Lord, and pursue love for God, love for your neighbor, righteousness, and unity above all else? If so, say, “I do.”
Congregation: I do.
Pastor: When I bring the elements to you, if you answered, “I do,” extend your hands palm down in a posture ready to reach out to receive the elements. If you were unable to answer “I do,” extend your hands palm up in a posture to receive a blessing spoken over you.
All rise. *Pastor takes the elements to each individual, they dip the bread into the wine and hold the bread until everyone is served.
Pastor: Let us now freely receive and eat, take and drink, taste and see the Lord is good!
Doxology
Group sings the Doxology acapella.
Celebration Feast
Pastor: We now transition into our agape meal. Remember, this feast is a part of our worship. We now feast on this meal, prophetically, just as we freely feast on the grace that was lavishly provided to us by our Lord Jesus. To the praise of His glory, amen.
The group eats.
Blow Out Candle, Formal Dismissal, Benediction
Pastor: As we extinguish this candle, let us remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ:
“You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14,16, CSB)
*The Pastor extinguishes the candle.
Though this light is extinguished, let us carry the light of Christ within us.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace as you go forth to love and obey Him.
Congregation: Amen.
Pastor: The divine liturgy of Harbinger Gospel Church is now formally closed. You are dismissed, but you are welcome to stay as long as you’d like.
